Ode to Michael Crichton

2003-01-27 - 12:22 p.m.

The most underrated thing about Michael Crichton is that he's written of as a cheesy, generic hack type writer. But in reality, he's fantastic.

So maybe he doesn't write in lyrical prose, and perhaps you can walk away form his books and not feel an overwheliming attachment.

But where else, I ask you, can you get a detailed science lesson in subjects you'd never dream of understanding.

Because of this man I now understand the principles of : Nanoparticles and the capability of combining robot movements with human DNA; the quantum theory and time travel; DNA recombination and genetic cloning; Vikings and their civilizations; machines that have human abilities; abortion and other medical procedure; and the strictures of being a doctor.

And I didn't even learn this shit in school.
