After completing the Bill Hicks biography, I am obsessed. I mean, I loved him before, but now it's recahing that scary Ben Gibbard point.
I just searched Diaryland to check out the Hicks listers. What a crappy, disappointing group of fans.
Whiny youths obsessed with Tool, you know-the ones who just got around to removing Marilyn Manson from their bands because he's not cool anymore.
Went to the city last night to take in some cultural action. I'm finally starting to feel like I fit in. Saw Lost in La Mancha, so utterly depressing and humorous, Terry Gilliam has such grace. Caught Joseph Arthur at a used book store that was cozy. I curled up on a chair and read while he sang, the acoustics perfect his deep timbre washing over me.
That was the ideal concert. Sitting. Reading. Warmth and low lighting.
The other day a large, husky fellow in very, very tight pinstripe pants approached me as I waited for my mom.He interrupted my view of a building across the street with his large head.
"Is your boyfriend cheating on you? Spying?", he asked with a smarmy grin.
"Uh. Not that I know of." Better safe than sorry to reply with a neutral implication of attachment.
He shoved his hand under my nose, and I first I thought to sniff it but realized he wanted a handshake. I had a protective layer of gloves on, so I figured I might as well live a little.
"My name is...blah." he cheerily informed me. I wasn't really paying attention. His name was not actually blah though.
I responded with my name. He looked down, amazed at my hand.
"What a strong grip! You must be a dancer?" He stated, ever the moron.
"Nope." I answered distractedly, looking for the nearest escape.
"Horseback rider?"
I wanted to laugh so badly, but I feared he might misconstrue my intentions.
"Nope. The truth is, I just really like to hurt people."
Big smile.
"Gotta go. I think my mom is here. Bye!"
As I merrily hopped to the subway station.
This isn't the first time. People try and shake my hand constantly. Why? Am I missing something?
